As Firefighters we need to be ready to assist the public to the best of our abilities whenever called upon. Since firefighting is a hazardous profession we need to protect ourselves as well. The only way to do this is to train regularly. We need to review old procedures so we don't forget them, plus learn new and better procedures when they are developed.

We are all VOLUNTEERS. No one has to be a volunteer firefighter. The public doesn't look at us as volunteers though. They expect us to be professional in what we do. They pay us through their taxes, although we receive no money ourselves. We cannot operate with tax money alone. To be able to buy equipment we also have to have Bar-B-Que's. Each Firefighter has approx. $1000 worth of equipment when issued turnout gear and a pager. You also have Life Insurance, and Workers Comp. Insurance money has to be saved for new trucks and other equipment to stay prepared for whatever may confront us. The more maintenance and work we do around the station ourselves the more money we will have to buy equipment you want.

State law requires a minimum of 36 hrs. training a year to remain a firefighter. If you attend all Dept. Drill held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month you would receive approx 60 hrs. of training credit. With area schools you would receive another approx. 12 hrs. training credit.  Training is a must for every firefighter. Many members exceed the state minimum while others barely meet the minimum.

Our training year runs from July 1 to June 30. Certain training hours will be totaled and posted each quarter. The following guide is to be followed: 24 of the 36 required training hours must be in station training. Firefighters are responsible for reporting any outside training. Certificates from outside training should be brought in for copying and a copy placed in the firefighters personal folder.
